Mica Cupcake goes to Hyper Japan summer 2017

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Bonjour Cupcakers!

I had some time off a couple of weeks ago, and boy what a week it was! I went to London, Norwich to visit my dad, and Brighton to visit some of my favourite animals!

This post I’m going to focus on my trip to London, more specifically Hyper Japan at the Tobacco Docks! Paul and I once again ventured into the heart of the capital to explore the wonder that is the Hyper Japan Summer Festival. You had all the standard stalls and attractions; i.e. food, sake, accessories, clothes, travel companies and so much more. As it was at Christmas last year the venue was buzzing with a Kawaii atmosphere and everyone was dressed to the nines in full Cosplay and Lolita-style. As always, I was hella excited to be there and this year I was actually organised!

My outfit of choice was full on Fairy-Kei: I had my signature unicorn wig, but this time I fashioned a lilac strappy skater dress from New Look, complete with baby pink cardigan, pale blue kickers and topped off with a cute beret, anime makeup and the Henry Holland ‘Kitsch Klaws’ I bought from Boots especially for this event. I felt cute, pastel and ready to take on the world.[/vc_column_text][vcex_image_grid columns=”2″ title=”no” image_ids=”833,828″][vc_column_text]It was your typical Saturday morning, Paul and I set off with high hopes and open minds. This was our second Hyper Japan together and we came brimming with new ideas, plus business cards, stickers and badges with the Mica Cupcake emblem pasted all over them.

I decided to only bring a few items of merchandise and give them out to selected people. Quality over quantity as they say! The weather was very kind to us until we got to the venue, then it was just bloody boiling. I could tell that I was going to sweat, especially under my wig. (Gross, I know).

Paul was anxious as he knew that it was an important event for us and the brand. Plus I kept making him give out merch. to strangers at random points of the day.  😀 We saw some regular faces, Roxie Sweetheart on her bigger-than-ever stand, plus all her crew. I saw Zoe (aka @sweetbabybutton) at the Tofu Cute stand, plus the two girls who I always see cosplaying for Hyper Japan.[/vc_column_text][vcex_image_grid columns=”2″ title=”no” image_ids=”827,826″][vc_column_text]The highlight of my day was meeting Cry Bby founder Leyla: we got on like a house on fire! And I even got a hug 😀 I met so many guys and gals selling their wares and promoting their skills, and all were fabulous in their own way. I loved seeing everyone in Cosplay, Lolita, Fairy Kei and Harajuku outfits. I loved seeing a mixture of traditional Japan mixed with all the wonders of the modern Eastern world. It was refreshing to feel like I could be myself and no one judging or questioning me.

Super duper Kawaii star Haruka Kurebayashi was there this year, leading the J-style Catwalk show, plus doing meet and greets on all three days over at the Dreamy Bows stand!! I caught a glimpse of her, she’s adorable! So tiny and more colourful than I ever could have imagined! I definitely see her as a role model, as she completely embraces the aesthetic that I live by. I hope that one day I can have as much recognition for what I do and what my passions are as much as she does 🙂

The day finished off with me walking in the extra little show case on the lower mat in the downstairs area. I was extremely nervous, and at one point I even started to bottle it and head home, but with the love and support from my family and friends, I found the courage to get up and strut my stuff on the stage, and I’m very glad that I did. Not only did I feel amazing after the show finished, but also, by chance, I bumped into my fellow Instagrammer Gemma as I was leaving! We hadn’t met before so we had a lovely chat on the way to our relevant transport stations. She’s a fab chick and so pastel!!

All in all I had a fantastic day, saw some amazing things and met some inspirational people. I can’t thank Paul enough for coming with me and supporting me again. I honestly couldn’t do this without him, and fully intend on making the Hyper Japan summer event a yearly thing for us!

Take care and Stay Stylish Cupcakers!

Meesh
