Hi Cupcakers!
Today marks the first day of my Thursday feature! Every week I shall talk about a particular trend that happens to catch my eye on the High Street. That includes menswear, ladieswear and even homeware!
This week is all about velvet!
My earliest memory of wearing velvet was in the 90s as a kid. I had a velvet catsuit with glitter embellishment. Plus hand made black trousers and red top from my grandmother (my sister had the same accept the colours swapped around.) It continues to come and go, each season with a new or exciting twist!

Velvet garments made an appearance on the catwalk for A/W 2016. Designers including Preen, Prada, Dries Van Noten and Valentino all featured velvet in their ready-to-wear collections; each with a difference colour palette and silhouette in mind. Valentino decided to use a mustard yellow for their velvet dress, which skimmed its way down the runway- whereas Dries Van Noten featured a lot of velvet accessories in their grunge inspired collection.
I have collated a few key items from the High Street, naming this particular trend 'Midnight Memoirs' - a name derived from one of the Matalan Ladieswear 'edit' departments.
New Look

They have some really lovely garments this year, I especially like their velvet slim fit suit trousers, you can really dress them up or down: I'd pair them with cute sandals and frilly socks. £24

This dusty pink crushed velvet dress is gorgeous; and a bardot neckline is so on trend right now! Pair with a choker and nude heels and you're ready for your Christmas party. £24.99

This black velvet catsuit is identical to the one I used to wear as a child. It's super cute and would go well with a pair of ankle boots or chunky sandals. Layer on faux fur for a really fierce look. Meow! £19.99
Topshop
Topshop has a cutesy approach to velvet this season, I'm imagining 90s riot girls with cute fringes and butterfly clips in their hair. Someone like Buffy!

< First is the candy pink velvet mini pini dress from MOTO- at £40 I'd be wearing this thing every single day.

This midnight blue velvet belt is so eye catching, pair it with ankle grazer jeans and a crop top. £25 ^

<This floral velvet playsuit for £55 oozes Edwardian glamour, I'd wear it with cream lace and an elegant curly up-do.

^Finally, complete any party look with these pale pink ROCKSY Spot Velvet Sandals. They're adorable and will last you throughout this festive season. Pair with silver glittery tights and your favourite frock! £69.
Matalan
Now we come to what Matalan has to offer, this is where Midnight Memoirs really comes to life. The colours and silhouettes are so on trend and have filtered straight from the Catwalk.

<This pink velvet choker is just what the doctor ordered! At a fantastic price of just £4 you can update any look, with this subtle touch of velvet.

This black velvet dress is a blast from the past. The spagetti strap and glittery detailing is grungy, gothic and completely adorable. At just £18, how could you resist? >

^Finally we have this midnight blue velvet bag. It is a cute addition to a pair of boyfriend jeans and a statement bomber jacket, and for just £10- style steal!
All these pieces are a great way to start buying into this trend, and be sure to keep them if you can, we all know this glam fabric will just keep coming back!
Stay Stylish beauties !
