Hey Cupcakers,
The main influence behind my choice for this weeks track comes from me watching classic music videos on the Now80s music channel. One of my favourite features they do on the channel is where they show a full tracklist of an 80s Now Album in video format, basically every song from a specific Now album. Now 5 was a family favourite as my Dad had it on vinyl and it would get played over and over on the record player when I was young so when I saw Now80s showing every track from that album it was a trip down memory lane.
There were some big hits on Now 5, like Duran Duran with 'View to a kill' and Simple Minds with 'Don't you forget about me' but also songs that were obviously hits at the time but are lesser know today. The track I've picked is one of those more obscure hits, it's 'Icing on the cake' by Stephen 'TinTin' Duffy.
An interesting fact I've discovered about Stephen Duffy is that he was once apart of an early incarnation on Duran Duran as singer, bassist and drummer but left to form others bands and eventually go solo.
'Icing on the cake' is a unique synth-pop track with a classic video typical of the decade it was from.
